Building a startup will most likely set you up for failure. Even if your startup sees some traction, it’s not generating enough revenue from day one.
So make money in some way. We didn’t want to keep a day job. So for us it’s client work. And it’s fun.
Keeping the activities to make money inside your company gives you the flexibility a startup requires. You can respond to customers during the day, reply to support emails. Which is hard while flipping burgers.
Losing focus on your own products is a downside of client work. But it’s a good trade-off when you compare it to starting your company. We’ve designed the internals of our company by doing client work. Our processes are well developed, we ship weekly updates on multiple products and projects for clients. It’s the constant flow of work that makes us better with every update shipped.
