This post is about making WordPress development awesome.
The most important reason why Ruby on Rails is the web framework of my choice, is its friendliness and ease of use for programmers and designers. For WordPress, I’ve always hated the experience of setting up new projects. That’s why today, we’re releasing PressPass 1.1.
PressPass is a command-line tool that makes bootstrapping and managing your local WordPress installation super easy. It will download the latest stable of WordPress and set up a local development server so you can get started right away with developing your themes and plugins.
Here’s how it works
Just install the presspass and foreman gems. Then use it to create and run your local WordPress development environment:
$ gem install presspass foreman $ presspass new myblog $ cd myblog/ $ foreman start $ open http://localhost:8000
Now create a database on your local MySQL server and enter the connection details in the WordPress setup wizard.
Your feature requests
I think this gem could do a lot more to make common WordPress development activities a lot easier. If you have them: please post them in the comments, or create an issue on GitHub.
