This week, we are highlighting our minimum order threshold feature.

With this update, you can make sure that every order delivers more value to your business.

Not only this, but you can encourage your customers to explore and enjoy more of the products and services you offer.

What's new 👀

Our new minimum order threshold lets you set a baseline order value that must be met for two different situations:

  1. Sign-up threshold: A customer can only sign up for a subscription if their order meets your minimum threshold.
  2. Next order threshold: Recurring customers can only receive their next orders if their order total meets that minimum threshold.

💡 Note: The minimum order amount includes taxes but excludes discounts and shipping costs.

What are the benefits? 🤔

  • Better customer awareness: From the get-go, your customers will know if they need to add more to their order, both at checkout and in the customer portal.
  • More profitability: By setting a minimum order value, you ensure that every subscription is financially viable. That way, everything is covered, whether it's the cost of products, taxes, or any other fees.
  • Less admin work: As the process is automated, this means fewer manual interventions for your team. If a customer’s order doesn’t meet the threshold, they’ll get a notification and can adjust their order themselves.

How it works ⚒️

The minimum order threshold does two important things:

  1. Prevents new sign-ups that don’t meet the threshold: If a customer tries to subscribe with a product that falls below the minimum order amount, they’ll receive a notice during checkout, encouraging them to add more items to reach the threshold.
  2. Monitors existing subscriptions: If an upcoming order is below the minimum, your customer will receive a warning in their customer portal, prompting them to add more products to meet the threshold. This helps avoid missed shipments and keeps the process smooth.

What is the setup process? 🔨

Getting started with minimum order thresholds is easy. Here’s how to set it up:

  1. Log in to the customer portal: First, head over to your customer portal and find the Subscription Model settings under the main Settings tab.
  2. Find minimum order amount: Once in the Subscription Model section, locate the field labeled Minimum Order Amount.
  3. Set your threshold: Input the amount you want as the baseline for every subscription order.
  4. Save your changes: Click Save, and you’re all set! From here on out, any new subscription or recurring order must meet this threshold before it can be processed.

Things to keep in mind 🧠

  • Email notifications: Your customers will still receive the Upcoming Order Notice Email, even if their order is below the minimum threshold. Using the liquid tags {{project.minimum_order_amount}} and {{order.minimum_order_amount_reached?}}, you can customize these emails to remind them to adjust their order to meet the required amount.
  • Smart order-based projects: This feature is only available for smart order-based projects.
