Podcast: Lessons from building Firmhouse for 10-years

Roughly a month ago, Maria Bahamam a.k.a Madam Rotterdam stopped by for an interview. Maria was part of the first Firmhouse Venture Lab cohort.

Bob Jansen

A candid desk scene: an open ledger book, a printed invoice, a mug with a retro logo, and a laptop showing a customer record. Sunlight from the left casts sharp shadows across the desk, evoking late afternoon focus time. 90s analogue photo aesthetic, realistic textures. Minimal human presence, more “tools of the trade” feel. A strong diagonal beam of natural light cuts across the white wall in the background, adding depth and elegance to the composition. The entire setting is bright, airy, and minimal. The only accent of bold color: her strappy sandals are rendered in a deep, saturated Klein blue (#002fa7), with a matte, high-fashion finish that pops against the otherwise neutral tones. Photorealistic textures, soft diffused lighting, high-resolution editorial photography style, perfectly balanced and refined.

Roughly a month ago, Maria Bahamam a.k.a Madam Rotterdam stopped by for an interview. Maria was part of the first Firmhouse Venture Lab cohort. About a year later we finally got to sit down and talk about how I evolved as a Founder and the history of Firmhouse.

We managed to cover a lot of ground:

  • Why did I start Firmhouse? What pushed me to even think about it?

  • How did me and Michiel meet and decided to work together?

  • What do we mean when talking about a healthy business, how did we apply it?

  • My personal story & background, how did it shape the direction for Firmhouse?

I've never very publicly spoken how being ill at a young age shaped me. And above all, having gone through that, allowed me to build a company.
